Istvan Barczikay
A Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Istvan’s long standing passion for wine and lifelong love of geography encouraged him to create his first book The Wine Region Atlas.
Born and raised in north-east Hungary, Istvan familiarized himself with the world-renowned wine region, Tokaj.
His knowledge for wine has expanded with his travels, as he has spent time living and working in the United States, Germany, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, learning more about the industry with each experience.
His travels have given him opportunities to work with various small businesses as well as high-calibre establishments such as St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Savoy Grill.
Outside of work, Istvan has sought out more learning opportunities and had the privilege to go behind the scenes of the 2017 harvest of the Chateau Dereszla winery, and witness the entire process of wine making, from grape to bottling.
He currently lives in London, and when not working and gaining knowledge of the wine industry, Istvan enjoys watching superhero movies, culinary arts, and maintaining good physical health.
